Searching for a source - of fun. « Thread Started on Nov 26, 2006, 12:44pm »
Moving to the well lit entrance, he opened the door, a small bell jingling as he did so. Not exactly a common greeting for a pool hall, but oh well. Foot was held open for his following company, gaze glancing well within the noisy establishment. It seemed fairly well packed this early in the evening.
Well.. first impression certainly isn't bad. Suppose we dare to tempt whatever else is inside?
He joked, trying to sound somewhat philosophical with his high level high school english background. Hah.. that was a laugh in itself. He was from the backwoods of Texas, and there was no way around that one. First glance could establish that to an extent, but hearing a bit of that southern twang within his speech pretty much sealed the deal. But he didn't care, and apparently neither did to many others.

Gaze scanned the large room as the girl stepped inside. A soft thanks accompanied by a nod was given to her company as she brushed past him. Only a few feet in, she stopped. The pool hall itself seemed inviting enough, but the people were like nothing she had ever seen before. There were so many! Grouped along the bar, in corners and around tables and pool tables alike.
"Sure is busy."
The girl said to her companion, staring with a perplexed look on her face.

That it is.
He mused in reply, allowing the door to slide shut behind him. Single hand brushed lightly along her back, letting her know he was behind her now before stepping around to lead the way. To where, he wasn't exactly sure just yet. Perhaps a try at a pool table?
Have you ever played pool before?
Was the questioning statement, handsome gaze shifting to look back at her a moment before focusing upon where he was headed. Stepping around some random couple making out under a dimly lit light, head shook mildly before heading towards the far side of the building, which was lined with pool tables. The majority were already taken, games in place and kids crowded around to either play, watch, or socialize. Spotting an empty one, he figured he'd give the girl a bit of entertainment. The idea surely couldn't hurt.

Feeling his fingers trail lightly down her back, she smiled. This was nice. Shifting his jacket from one arm to another, she looked up at him. With a sly grin playing upon her lips, she replied.
"Yes, Ive played pool before. The question is, do you honestly think you can beat me?"
Her tone was playful as she spoke, and she laughed softly. Her eyes followed his gaze, landing upon a couple kissing, if you could call it that, bathed in the soft beams of a dying light. More than ever, she wished she knew what he was thinking. Looking away, she surveyed the room again.

As far as he was concerned, his thoughts would remain a mystery, unless she asked that is. Even then, it wasn't likely he'd pour himself out to her. He was too cautious for that, even if he did find her to be quite a sweetheart.
Oh.. is that the case? Alright then.. you're on.
He grinned, moving towards an unoccupied table alongside of a couple of guys and their obvious cheerleader girlfriends who were playing a game of their own. Gaze lifted to the wallside stick rack, where he grabbed two. Laying her's across the table, he grabbed the chalk and fixed his up. Satisfied shortly after, he grabbed the triangle and fixed the balls on the table as well. Setting the cue ball in place, he stepped back, his gaze shifting towards her. There were chairs right beside them, against the wall. She could set her stuff down there without worry of anyone messing with it, for they were right here.
Want to go first?
Sly smirk was upon his features, handsome gaze still steadily upon her own.

Following behind him to the open poot table, her gaze fell upon the rack on the wall. She made a move to grab a stick, but when she noticed he grabbed two, she let her hand fall back to her side. What a gentlemen, she thought to herself, although it was only partly sarcastic. She looked down at the jacket that she held, and then cautiously set it one of the the chairs along the wall, making a mental note to keep an eye on it. How embarresing would it be to loose his jacket right when they were starting to become friends? The teen moved towards the table, picking up the stick he obviously left for her. She set it softly on the ground, running the small square of blue chalk over the other end. When she was satisfied, she blew on it lightly, a small dusting of the fine powder falling away. Weight shifted to one hip as she leaned against her stick, a smile on her lips.
"You're up."

Well if that's the way you want to do this.. then alright.
He smirked, shrugging mildly as he took the stick into hand and moved alongside the table. Placing the edge of the blue tipped pool stick against the white cue ball, he set his hands and then pulled back. Seconds later he'd hit the ball at an angle, causing it to roll off into the group of traingled balls - scattering them in all directions. A single striped ball rolled into a corner pocket, the cue ball settling somewhere amongst the chaotic mess.
Guess you're solids.
He mused, gaze lifting as he eyed the table over again.
You want to go, or shall I go again?
He'd made one in - and could go again. But it was only the first shot, so he wasn't all that concerned. Maybe he'd go easy on her.. just maybe.

As the boy lined up for his shot, her gaze wandered to the people around her. Everyone seemed to know what they were doing, everyone seemed to have a purpose. Her soft features fell slightly as she watched people talking and laughing amongst themselves. It was nice, but at the same time, a reminder of how new and unknowing she was to this place. It was a scary thought, but at the same time, a relief to know she had at least one good acquaintance here, maybe even a friend if he considered her that.
The crack of the balls hitting together caused the girl to look back towards the table. Hearing him speak, she thought for a moment, then replied with,

Alright.
He shrugged in response, gaze returning upon the pool table as he shifted form to line up the cue ball once more. Click of the balls could be heard, then the sound of them cascading against the side of the table before rolling silently to a halt. He'd missed his shot by a few inches, causing the ball to bounce back away from the hole, hitting another of her own closer instead. Crappy shot, but oh well. It was pool.. that's what happened.
Go for it.
Straightening up, he grabbed the chalk and rubbed it briefly across the stick tip, blowing softly as a puff of blue was emit into the air behind him. He'd made sure not to do so in her direction. Smart boy. Leaning back against the building wall behind him, gaze glanced around the area for a moment before returning back to the girl. Time to see if she could play or not.

A silent nod was given as she watched his shot. He had only missed by a matter of inches, and even though it hadn't gone it, it was obvious this boy had talent. A slight smile tugged at the corner of her pale pink lips. Whether she was bluffing or not, she wasnt even entirely sure herself. But now was the time to find out.
"Nice shot."
She complimented the boy, but her words held no feeling and a soft but competitive gleam shined in her cobalt eyes. The girl checked the tip of her stick one last time, deciding against adding more chalk. She leaned her hip into the table, leaning forward over the green velvet. She balanced the stick on her fingers and took a silent, but deep breath. Eyebrows furrowed together as she squinted at the balls that lay before her. And then, with a crack, the blue-hinted tip of the stick smacked the small white ball, causing it to move an assortment of other balls to move. A solid inched towards the edge of the pocket, and after pausing there, slowly rolled in. A sigh of relief was breathed. She bit her tongue before she could say any words towards the boy, because she herself knew it was a lucky shot. Instead, she straightened again and looked towards her company.

Features remained unexpressive, form still leaning calmly against the wallside.
We'll play this one right, so go ahead.
He commented, arms crossing against his ruggid exterior, pool stick held only be a few fingers, and with little concern. Gaze held only mild intrigue and amusement. Perhaps he'd underestimated her. And if not, then she was great at bluff. Either way.. he liked it.

Head dipped slightly as she nodded again, slim frame moving slowly around the table as she studied the position of the balls. Then she halted. Leaning over the table once again, she rested the stick against her fingers and pulled the stick back and forth, preparing for the strike. Then, satisfied with her plan, a small smile dawned upon her features. It shouldn’t be too difficult. Actually, it was a fairly easy play. The girl pulled back and thrust forward with the stick, and it made another crack against the cue ball. She straightened as she watched the play unfold. It was going wonderfully, until the solid that was destined to roll into the corner pocket instead went the other direction, bouncing off the opposite wall. She cringed lightly, and then moved over next to her companion.
"You lucked out."
She murmured, shrugging it off like it humored her. She balanced the stick against her crossed arms, mirroring the boy’s pose against the wall.

Oh, I bet.
Was the smirked reply to her first statement, a mild nod being given to her second. Moving from his wallside stance only moments after she'd moved to join him, he walked around the pool table before repositioning for a shot. Stick was laid atop the green felt, single hand upon the table to be used as a prop. The blue tip hit the cue ball as he had before, this time pocketing a single blue striped ball. Having made the shot, he shifted again for a second. This time the ball he'd aimed at shifted a bit far to the right, barely missing the pocket before rolling aside to bump into one of the girl's own solid balls. He seemed to have a tendency of doing that. He'd make a shot, then barely miss the next. Crappy luck, he supposed. Brow raised as he glanced back over at her.
Not too bad.. I guess.
He covered, making a slight motion for her to take her chances once again.
